Well, the 2007 season is in the history books and it was another winner for Northwestern High School, the Purple Regiment, Tim Hinton and Larry Wells & his staff . . . a recap of the season is provided below.
2007 COMPETITION RESULTS
Irmo Palmetto Invitational; Columbia, SC (9/29/07)
Bands of America Regional Championship - St. Petersburg, FL (10/13/06)
This year's BOA competition was the toughest the Purple Regiment has faced and we all should be proud of how our band looked in the face of the high caliber of the bands that were there this year. Of the 27 bands on the field, 22 were in Class AAA meaning that in most cases, we were up against bands with 100+ more students on the field. Despite this, the Purple Regiment showed the crowd what a talented group of musicians from Rock Hill, SC could do when they put their minds to it . . . . and even with the caliber of the bands we went up against, we still came out on top of 15 other bands - finishing 12th overall and missing the top 10 by only 0.15 points! Feelings were low when the placements were announced but we all recognize that our band represented Northwestern High School well with their skill and talent.
Received a rating of Superior

South Carolina Upper State Band Directors Association Class 4A Championships; Boiling Springs, SC (10/20/06)
This evening's performance was the first step to ending the 2007 season in Batesville-Leesburg at the South Carolina 4A Championship competition. Northwestern's Purple Regiment went head-to-head with 14 other 1st rate 4A bands from across the Piedmont region of the state and beyond. There were a number of really great band performances but based on the reaction of the crowd, the Purple Regiment really stepped up and hit one out of the park in terms of their performance! Comments from other band parents, a band director and collegiate music students that did not know anyone from NWHS included
"Of all the performances tonight, yours was the only one that excited me"
"You guys should be really proud of your students with a show as strong as that one is!"
"Watch out bands at State Championships - Northwestern has an unbeatable show!"
The scoring was close but Northwestern finished 2nd in Upper State Preliminary competition with an overall score of 89.775. The band received an overall rating of Superior
Next weekend the Purple Regiment will take their show to Batesville-Leesburg and show the audience just how passionate the band can be about a great show performed by talented musicians from Rock Hill, SC!

South Carolina State Band Directors Association Class 4A Championships- Batesville-Leesburg, SC (10/27/06)
The day turned out to be picture-perfect in terms of the rain clearing out and the sky turning a clear blue as the bands started to take the field. With 4A going first this weekend, the competition began at noon with Fort Mill. Northwestern drew the 2:15 PM performance slot . . . going 4th from the end.
A full retreat was part of the awards ceremony and Colleton County High School was selected to play cadence as all of the bands entered the field and lined up. Scores and placements were announced and Northwestern's Purple Regiment took 4th overall with a final score of 93.1.

Looking Back at the 2007 Marching Band Season . . . . . .
While a 1st place win would have been a great way to end the season, EVERYONE is proud of what all of the students accomplished this season! Think back to what all of you started with during the 100F+ days of July and August in band camp . . . . and thinking just how high that mountain seemed in front of you before the season started. But it all came together as the Purple Regiment spent hours on the practice field under the guidance of Mr. Wells, Mr. Yost and the other staff members.
The season that just finished up in Batesburg-Leesville was probably one of the hardest we have ever been through in terms of the overall caliber of bands we competed against. Think about BOA . . . . with 22 Class AAA Bands versus less than half that number in past years. Despite the level of other bands that were there, we still out-performed 15 other bands and just barely missed the finals.
South Carolina Championships . . . . . here we once again showed the level at which our students perform. Let's keep it in perspective - the Purple Regiment is ranked 2nd best 4A band in the upper half of the state of South Carolina and the 4th best 4A band in the entire state! Just think about how many bands would hope to be rated as highly as we are . . . and this only happened thanks to the effort each and every band member put forth, the guidance provided by Mr. Wells and his staff, and the countless hours the parents put in to make everything run as smoothly as it did.
NEVER SELL YOURSELF SHORT AS FAR AS WHAT ALL OF YOU ACCOMPLISHED THIS SEASON . . . . YOU ARE ALL WINNERS IN THE EYES OF NORTHWESTERN HIGH SCHOOL AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, IN THE EYES OF ALL OF US PARENTS!
